The Company uses a rigorous multi-staged approach to develop our surveys, including direct input from adult and child patients and their families as well as from clinical and academic experts. HACHQ employs the Likert method of summated ratings to design all of our surveys. This method is preferred because it is based on scaling assumptions that can be empirically tested and allows for simplicity in scoring and interpreting findings. The summative approach is the hallmark method used in the construction and evaluation of widely accepted quality of life measures for both adults and children.
We use a graduated response continuum (e.g., "a lot" to "not at all") and compute scale scores by deriving the algebraic mean of each scale and transforming the raw score on a 0-100 continuum. Using standard scoring conventions, a higher score is more favorable.
All HACHQ scoring documents are available exclusively on CD-ROMs as e-books - including the first interactive CHQ Scoring and Interpretation Manual released in April 2008.
